The Master Gardener Foundation of Whatcom County is offering up to three scholarships at $1000
each to a student who is pursuing or plans to pursue a career in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a
related field.
The student may attend any institution that offers an accredited program leading to a degree,
diploma, or certificate in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
Each year the Master Gardener Foundation will set aside a percentage of its income for the
Scholarship Fund. In addition members, family members or others may donate to the fund. It’s our
hope that in the future the size and number of scholarships can be increased.
Student Selection Criteria
1. Student must be a resident of Whatcom County.
2. Student must qualify for a High School diploma or GED diploma.
3. Student must plan to or be pursuing a career in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
4. Student’s financial need will be considered.
5. Student’s grade point average will be considered.
6. Student must be willing to meet with the selection committee for an interview, if requested.
The student is required to:
A. Complete an application (click here to view or print application form.)
B. Write and attach a typed or printed one-page essay not to exceed one single-spaced page,
describing:
• your academic goals and intended major
• service and activities in your community
• how you will utilize your education for the betterment of your community
• leadership abilities/experiences/special talents/aptitudes
• any other information to be considered with respect to your scholarship application
(such as financial need.)
C. Attach a copy of your High School or GED academic transcript for your junior year and fall
term of your senior year.
D. Attach two letters of recommendation from persons who are not related to you:
• one from a teacher with whom you have studied within the past three years
• the other from a person who has knowledge of you and your interest in the area in which
you are applying for scholarship
• applicants already enrolled in an institution of higher learning should also include a letter of
recommendation from a current instructor or professor in your field of interest
E. Send the completed scholarship application with the required attachments, postmarked no
later than March 31 of the year of application to:
