WSU Whatcom
County Extension offers 40 hours of free training
(classroom and hands-on) in current methods of canning, freezing,
drying and storage. The course also provides extensive information
on food safety and food borne illnesses.
In return,
you volunteer 50 hours of service to our community. Volunteer
activities may include:

Answering
telephone questions.

Preparing
educational displays.
-
Presenting
or assisting at workshops.

Staffing
information booths.
VOLUNTEERING
WITH THE PROGRAM
Participating
in related field trips, advanced trainings and other social
events make this program a rewarding and enriching way to
meet others with similar interests. Many members become "veterans" and
continue volunteering far beyond the first year.
HOW
TO BECOME A MASTER FOOD PRESERVER & SAFETY ADVISOR
The
main requirements to become a Master Food Preserver & Safety
Advisor are:

Availability
for all training sessions.

A
desire to share your experience and knowledge with others.

Willingness
to participate in a variety of activities.
The
training sessions take place in early spring. All ages and levels
of experience are welcome. Time and the desire to volunteer are
